PE, HEALTH & WELL-BEING
"In order for man to succeed in life, God provided him with two means, education and physical activity. Not separately, one for the soul and the other for the body, but for the two together. With these means, man can attain perfection.”
Plato

At Sherrier we believe all young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation, and is central to meeting the government’s ambitions for a world-class education system.

We understand that physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression), and children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. Ensuring that pupils have access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.

At Sherrier we understand that pupils need to develop their fundamental movement skills across their learnng journey here at school, which is why we use the REAL PE scheme centred around emotional literacy to focus on the whole child and the core movement skills needed in physical activity.

We work closely with our local sports partnership South Leicestershire Sports Partnership (SLSSP) and work hard to ensure their long term goals are embedded at our school. More information about their work can be found at the link below:

At Sherrier we consider the five key indicators (Apfe) when ensuring sustainable and quality PE and sport lessons in our school. We are committed in having at least 2 hours of directed PE time during a school week, allow pupils to compete in local and national competitions, are invested in our staff's knowledge and skills to teach PE and offer further enrichment opportunities in sports and physical activity.
